Weekly Smoke & Bourbon: 09/01/19 – 09/07/19
This week’s pairing combines the Oaky flavors of Jefferson’s Reserve Very Small Batch with the mild and earthy Macanudo Cafe.
“Any cigar smoker is a friend, because I know how he feels.”
Alfred de Musset

Overall Impressions:
The light woody, earthy smoke of the Macanudo balance out the warm oaky flavors of the Jefferson’s. The smoke compliments this bourbon nicely by bringing out some of its sweeter notes on the palate. The all-around smoothness of the cigar combined with the warm finish of the bourbon made for a balanced and enjoyable experience.
The Cigar: (Macanudo Cafe)
The Macanudo Cafe is an exceptionally light smoke. I feel as though I could smoke this stick at any time of the day. It has notes of nuttiness but has a mainly smooth earthy flavor.
The Cafe is made up of a Dominican and Mexican filler with a Connecticut shade wrapper. This makes for a well-constructed stick that stayed lit and burned well throughout the smoke. The Cafe is a very popular cigar and with good reason. It has a good flavor and is light enough to enjoy at any occasion.
The Intoxicant: (Jefferson’s Very Small Batch)
Jefferson’s Very Small Batch is presented in a unique bottle but has very familiar bourbon qualities. It has a very nice vanilla and woody smell to it which translated to an oaky, mildly sweet taste.
Each sip seems to give a stronger hint of the vanilla’s sweetness while still leaving a nice warmth on the palate. I noticed that the smoke from the mild Macanudo accentuated the sweetness of this bourbon making it a very enjoyable drinking experience.
Vibe: “Keep Good Company”
While indulging in this weeks pairing, I was fortunate enough to be accompanied by some good friends. It seems these days life is busier than ever, which makes each day go by so quickly. Before I know it, it’s been weeks or months since I’ve spent time with my close friends.
Puffing the smooth smoke of the Cafe and sharing the Jefferson’s with friends made me grateful for times like these. Although we may all be busy and have our own paths, I find it beneficial to make more time for old friends and good laughs.
As the old saying goes, you are the sum of the company you keep. I like to try and keep mine surrounded by good whiskey and better friends. May your cigars stay lit, your glasses stay full, and your nights be memorable. Cheers to the coming week friends.
“ I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family – and I don’t think I could ask for anything more than that, actually. ”
Frank Sinatra
